Tyler Weathersby
Case Information:
The Sioux Falls Police Department is seeking public assistance in locating 32‑year‑old Tyler Weathersby, who has been missing since September 4, 2024. He was last seen leaving his home for his routine morning walk at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Surveillance footage later recorded him at 7:50 a.m. walking eastbound toward the I‑29 corridor near West Madison Street and North Marion Road. This brief clip remains the final confirmed sighting of Tyler before all contact with him was lost
Physical Description:
Tyler is described as an African American male, standing 6’0” tall and weighing approximately 155 pounds with a slim build. He has brown eyes and black hair, though his head was shaved at the time he disappeared.
He can be identified by a distinct crown tattoo on his right forearm and a surgical scar running from his ankle to his knee on one leg. His family also believes he may now have a fuller beard and longer hair than shown in his initial missing‑person photographs.
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Because Tyler was committed to his health and fitness, he often took several walks a day to clear his mind and stay active. On the morning he disappeared, however, he left home without his cell phone, wallet, or passport.
In the 24 hours leading up to that walk, both his mother and his wife noticed behavior that was unusual for him and out of step with his typical personality. Combined with the absence of his personal belongings, these observations have deepened the family’s concern for his safety.
Family Perspectives:
Tyler’s mother, Janine, describes him as a compassionate and devoted father of three who remained closely connected to his family. His brother, Gregory, also emphasized Tyler’s creativity and noted that he played a central role in the music and fashion projects they built together.
Because of these deep family ties, his loved ones do not believe he would willingly walk away from his life or from his newborn child. Determined to find answers, they have hired a private investigator to pursue additional leads and continue searching for any information that may explain his disappearance.
Investigation Details:
The Sioux Falls Police Department has carried out extensive search efforts using drones and K9 units in the wooded areas surrounding the I‑29 corridor. Investigators, including Detective Black, have also reviewed hours of neighborhood surveillance footage in an attempt to trace Tyler’s possible route after he was last seen.
Although authorities do not currently suspect foul play, they have not uncovered any physical evidence or leads that explain his disappearance. The case remains open, and investigators continue to evaluate tips and information from the public.
Community Search Efforts:
The Sioux Falls community has shown strong support through groups such as “Where is Tyler Weathersby” and “Search for Tyler.” Volunteers have organized coordinated searches and distributed thousands of flyers throughout the region to keep his case visible.
A private investigator from Legal Eye Investigations is also working alongside the family to review neighbor statements and pursue additional leads. Together, these efforts aim to ensure that Tyler Weathersby’s disappearance remains an active priority as the investigation enters its second year.
Mental Health Context:
Before his disappearance, Tyler and his wife operated a creative agency called Wake, which centered its work on mental health and self‑expression. His wife, MonaLisa, shared that although Tyler was deeply committed to their mission, he did experience periods of depression.
She believes he may have been in a diminished or disoriented mental state when he left for his walk that morning. For that reason, she is asking the public to consider that he may be vulnerable and in need of medical assistance.
Ongoing Search Impact:
As a result of his disappearance, Tyler’s family has faced the dual challenge of a missing loved one and the pressures of social media speculation. Notably, Gregory Weathersby has expressed frustration with online theories, urging people to focus on the facts and the search for his brother.
In addition, the family continues to share photos showing how Tyler Weathersby might look with different hair lengths to help the public identify him. Ultimately, their goal remains a safe return and a resolution to the nightmare that began in September 2024.
