Amber Wilde
Amber Lynn Wilde was 19 when she disappeared from her Green Bay, Wisconsin apartment on September 23, 1998. A University of Wisconsin–Green Bay student, she was four to six months pregnant and recovering from a minor car accident earlier that day in which she struck her head. Her last known contact was a 7:16 p.m. phone call placed from her apartment landline.
Days later, on October 1, 1998, Amber’s 1988 silver Subaru GL was found abandoned near Lambeau Field in the parking lot of the former 50 Yard Line Sports Bar and Roadstar Inn.
Witnesses believed the vehicle had been sitting there since September 28. The car was unlocked, her phone was still charging, and her purse and keys were left inside the trunk.
The odometer showed roughly 900 unexplained miles. Her Subaru was distinctive, with a brown stuffed monkey hanging from the mirror, stuffed animals in the rear window, and a University of Wisconsin decal across the back glass.
Investigators later identified a primary suspect in 2016. According to police, the alleged motive centered on Amber’s pregnancy with an engaged man’s child and her refusal to have an abortion.
The man, Matthew Schneider, had reportedly insisted she end the pregnancy and wanted no involvement. Despite extensive searches and interviews, no physical evidence has ever been recovered to confirm what happened to Amber or her unborn baby.
Amber is presumed deceased, and her disappearance remains an open homicide investigation with the Green Bay Police Department and the FBI. Nearly three decades later, her family continues to wait for answers, and investigators maintain that someone knows what happened the night she vanished.
