Jamar Campbell
Jamar Campbell was found inside a silver Toyota Camry on McIlvain Street in Chester, Pennsylvania on October 28, 2020. He had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 21 years old.
Jamar grew up surrounded by family, and they describe him as stubborn in a way that made them smile, generous without hesitation, and always ready to help. He worked hard, looked out for his younger siblings, and carried himself with a quiet resilience that people close to him recognized instantly.
Just two weeks before he was killed, Jamar became a father. He spent every moment he could with his newborn daughter, learning how to hold her, how to soothe her, and how to be present in the small hours of the day.
His family says the weight of knowing she will grow up without him is something they feel every single day.
The night he died, the first sign of trouble was silence. Jamar didn’t answer his mother’s calls, and he didn’t take his grandmother’s trash to the curb like he always did. By morning, a news report mentioned a car found with a gunshot victim inside. The description matched his. That was how his family learned he was gone.
Jamar chose the trades over college because he liked working with his hands and wanted to build a stable life. He was the one who shoveled snow before anyone else woke up, cut the grass without being asked, and made sure birthdays and holidays were never overlooked. He loved fishing, traveling, and had recently gotten into shooting pool, but his family was always the center of his world.
His 21st birthday was the last one he celebrated. He planned it himself, choosing a playful theme and making sure everyone came together. His family remembers that day as bright and full, not knowing it would be the last time they gathered around him.
Jamar had a different bond with each person in his family, and he showed up for all of them. His mother still holds onto the last words she said to him that night: “I love you. Come home.”
