Logan Schiendelman
Case Information:
Logan Schiendelman was 19 when he was reported missing from Tumwater, Washington, on May 19, 2016.
A standout athlete at Tumwater High School, Logan was living with his grandmother, Ginnie Gebo, after returning from college.
On the morning he vanished, Logan appeared to be in a state of high emotion. He told his grandmother he had experienced a life-changing “epiphany,” though he struggled to explain the details before leaving for the day.
Case Details:
Logan is a biracial man (Black/White/Saudi) with black hair and brown eyes, standing approximately 6’0” tall. At the time of his disappearance, he weighed between 160 and 190 pounds and was likely wearing a black windbreaker and blue jeans.
The abrupt nature of his departure and the strange conversation about his identity have led to various theories. His family maintains that while Logan was searching for his place in the world, he would never have intentionally abandoned them forever.
Timeline of Events:
Logan was last seen at his home on May 19, 2016. The following day, his black 1996 Chrysler Sebring was found abandoned at milepost 92 on southbound Interstate 5, between Tumwater and Maytown.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle swerving across lanes before hitting the concrete median. A truck driver reported seeing a tall, Caucasian man jump from the passenger side and disappear into the dense woods nearby.
Investigation:
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office recovered Logan’s wallet, driver’s license, and cell phone from the impounded car. In June 2024, the department officially established a new Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit to re-examine the evidence.
A key piece of the investigation involves a 2017 police sketch of an unidentified man seen with Logan near his car on the morning of May 20. Despite hundreds of leads, the identity of the two men seen with him remains a mystery.
Community Response:
The “Logan Schiendelman is Missing” Facebook group continues to be a hub for tips and community support. In May 2025, a candlelight vigil was held to mark nine years without answers, drawing attention to the need for new forensic testing.
Logan’s story has been profiled on national platforms like Disappeared and the Dateline NBC podcast, Missing in America. These features keep the case in the public eye and encourage witnesses from across the country to come forward.
Family Statements:
Logan’s grandmother, Ginnie, has been his strongest advocate, often reflecting on his struggles with his mixed-race identity. She believes the “epiphany” he mentioned may have been a significant turning point that someone else took advantage of.
The family remains frustrated that the vehicle was not initially processed by a crime lab, potentially losing vital DNA evidence. However, they are working closely with the new Cold Case Unit to explore every possible scientific avenue.
Physical Appearance:
Logan is 6’0” tall with an athletic build. He has black hair, brown eyes, and a very distinctive, thoughtful expression.
In the hours following his disappearance, there was a potential sighting of a naked teenager in the woods near the I-5 corridor. While authorities conducted a search with dogs, they were unable to confirm if the individual was Logan.
Current Status:
As of March 2026, the case of Logan Schiendelman remains an active priority for the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives are currently re-interviewing witnesses and utilizing modern forensic techniques to examine recovered items.
Logan is listed in the NamUs database as missing person #MP34124. His family continues to wait for the one tip that will finally explain what happened on that stretch of I-5.
