Byron Speller
Byron Elliot Speller was 24 years old when he was last seen on June 29, 2018, in Augusta, Georgia. That afternoon, he accidentally locked the keys inside his mother’s burgundy Chevrolet Tahoe while parked at the old Kroger on Wrightsboro Road. He called his younger brother, Corey, for help. A locksmith arrived, unlocked the vehicle, and that moment became the last confirmed time anyone saw Byron.
When Byron didn’t pick up his mother for work the next morning, his family knew something was wrong. Later that day, deputies contacted her to report that the Tahoe had been found abandoned at a gas station on Lumpkin Road, nearly 20 minutes from where Byron was last seen. The SUV was unlocked, and both his keys and wallet were missing, but there was no sign of Byron anywhere nearby.
In the weeks that followed, family, friends, and community members organized search efforts across Augusta. Volunteers focused on the area around Lumpkin Road and the 6th Avenue corridor, where investigators were able to trace a final Wi‑Fi ping from Byron’s phone.
Despite extensive searches, no confirmed sightings or leads have emerged since that day.
Byron had been raising his two children after their mother passed away the year before he disappeared. His family describes the years since as a painful stretch of milestones missed and questions left unanswered. They continue to speak publicly, hoping someone will come forward with information that can finally bring clarity to what happened.
Anyone with information about the disappearance of Byron Elliott Speller is urged to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821‑1020.
