Elnaz Hajtamiri
Case Information:
Elnaz Hajtamiri, also known as Tamiri, was staying at a residence on Trailwood Place when three men in fraudulent police gear stormed the home at 8:30 p.m. The abductors, wearing fake police vests and badges, dragged Elnaz outside and forced her into the back seat of a white Lexus RX SUV.
The homeowner’s attempt to call 9-1-1 was thwarted when he was overpowered by the group. Since that night, Elnaz has not been seen or heard from, and as of May 2026, the investigation has led police to tragically presume she is deceased despite several high-profile arrests.
Case Details:
Weeks before her abduction, Elnaz was the victim of a brutal attack in a Richmond Hill parking garage on King William Crescent. Two men beat her over the head with a frying pan, an assault that left her with a significant forehead gash requiring 40 stitches and forced her into hiding.
Investigators later linked these events to her ex-boyfriend, Mohamad Lilo. In May 2026, Lilo pleaded guilty to conspiracy to kidnap and aggravated assault, receiving a six-year sentence for the latter, while first-degree murder charges were dropped due to the ongoing search for her remains.
Timeline of Events:
The timeline began on December 20, 2021, with the initial frying pan assault in Richmond Hill. Fearing for her life, Elnaz relocated to Wasaga Beach, only to be abducted by the three masked suspects less than a month later on January 12, 2022.
By mid-2022, several suspects, including Mohamad Lilo, were charged in connection to both the assault and the kidnapping. The case reached a legal milestone in May 2026 with Lilo’s sentencing, but the search for Elnaz’s whereabouts remains a primary focus for law enforcement.
Investigation:
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and York Regional Police are managing an extensive investigation with ties to Timmins, Quebec, and Dubai. Two composite sketches have been released identifying suspects involved in the abduction.
The first suspect is described as a very skinny male, 6’0” tall, with light black skin and a long narrow face. The second suspect is approximately 5’9” tall, stocky with skinny legs, and was wearing white/cream-colored shoes with a plastic toe cap during the abduction.
Community Response:
The #BringElnazHome movement has become a symbol of community persistence, with thousands of supporters sharing her photos and the composite sketches of her abductors. Advocacy groups have focused on the $100,000 reward as a tool to break the silence.
Vigils held across the Greater Toronto Area have kept the pressure on authorities to find her remains. The community’s refusal to let her case go cold has been a source of strength for her family during years of legal proceedings.
Family Statements:
Elnaz’s family has endured years of “missed memories and celebrations,” according to statements from the OPP. They have expressed profound grief over the calculated nature of the attacks, describing Elnaz as a vibrant woman who was failed by someone she once trusted.
Even with the conviction of her ex-boyfriend in May 2026, the family maintains that justice will not be fully served until she is located. They continue to urge those in the GTA or Quebec who may have seen the white Lexus SUV to speak up.
Physical Appearance:
Elnaz is described as 160 cm (5’3”) tall with a slim build and black hair that was cut to shoulder length just before her abduction. She is of Iranian descent and was 37 years old at the time she vanished.
Key identifying features include the potential for scarring on her forehead from the December 2021 assault. Her image remains a central part of the media kit used by the Huronia West OPP in their ongoing recovery efforts.
Current Status:
As of May 2026, the case is considered a recovery operation. While Mohamad Lilo is currently incarcerated, police are still searching for the three men who physically carried out the abduction and are seeking information on Elnaz’s final location.
A $100,000 joint reward is still available for information leading to her whereabouts. The OPP dedicated tipline remains open for any new leads that could resolve this four-year-old mystery.
