Laurie J. Depies
Laurie Jean Depies, 20, vanished on August 19, 1992, after finishing her shift at the Fox River Mall in Appleton, Wisconsin.
She drove to her boyfriend’s apartment on West Wilson Avenue, and her loud muffler was heard pulling into the lot around 10:15 PM, followed by a single car door closing.
She never came inside, and when she didn’t arrive, her boyfriend’s sister and a friend searched the parking area. They found her grey 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit locked, with her purse and overnight bag still inside and a Styrofoam cup of soda resting untouched on the roof.
There were no signs of a struggle, no broken glass, and nothing disturbed around the vehicle. Investigators suspected foul play immediately because the scene suggested she was taken quickly and without warning.
Over the years, several men have been examined, including convicted serial killer Larry DeWayne Hall, who once claimed responsibility but provided no verifiable evidence.
Other persons of interest, including David Spanbauer and an acquaintance known publicly as “Tim,” have been reviewed, yet none have been linked to her disappearance through physical proof.
Laurie remains missing, and her case is still open with Wisconsin authorities. At the time she disappeared, she was 5’5″, 115 pounds, with brown hair, green eyes, and a squid‑like tattoo on her right ankle.
