Rachel Conger
Case Information:
Rachel Conger was 30 years old when she went missing from the Paris, Tennessee on March 13, 2008. She was last seen in a truck with her husband, Paul Conger.
The couple had been separated for two months but were attempting to reconcile. Her sudden disappearance left her daughter without answers and prompted an extensive search by local authorities.
Background:
Rachel married Paul in 1997. He had previously served in the National Guard, and over the next decade their relationship deteriorated significantly. In January 2008, Rachel moved out of their home, seeking a safer and more stable life for herself and her daughter.
Her daughter later described the household as a hostile and unsafe environment, and said Paul had threatened Rachel’s life. Despite these concerns, Rachel agreed to meet with him one final time
The Morning of the Disappearance:
On that last morning, a witness saw Rachel Conger in Paul’s truck. At 9:33 a.m., a friend called Rachel’s cell phone. Surprisingly, Paul answered the phone instead.
He sounded very upset during the short call and would not let the friend speak to Rachel. This act raised red flags for her family. Shortly after, a witness saw Paul back at his home alone.
Discovery & Investigation:
Two days later, police located Paul’s truck near his home. Inside, they found Rachel’s purse, cell phone, and her medication, indicating she had not left voluntarily.
The following day, officers discovered Paul’s body in the nearby woods. He had died by suicide.
Search Efforts & Theories:
Search teams combed the area near the lake as well as the dense surrounding woods, but despite extensive efforts, no trace of Rachel was found.
Based on the evidence at the scene and Paul’s history, investigators concluded the case was likely a murder‑suicide. Rachel’s family, however, continues to seek answers. They remain certain she would never have willingly left her daughter.
