Destiny McClain
Destiny McClain, 23, was shot and killed on July 18, 2021, while standing at a small taco truck in Phoenix. Gunfire was sprayed toward the crowd, and a single round struck Destiny. She died at the hospital hours later. Her case remains unsolved.
Destiny was known for stepping in when someone needed help — whether it was a stranger outside a store or a small business trying to stay afloat. She and her sisters grew up giving what they could, and that instinct to care for others shaped her entire life.
She was outgoing in a way that made people feel seen. Her family remembers her stopping strangers just to offer a kind word. Despite that bright energy, she was happiest at home with her pets — turtles, a cat, and her beloved pit bull, Capone. After Destiny’s death, Capone waited for her in the spots where he used to find her. He passed away shortly afterward.
On the night she was killed, Destiny wasn’t out for herself. Her family says she went along to support a friend who was having a hard time. She normally preferred quiet nights in with her sisters, movies, and a drink.
Minutes before the shooting, she had been texting her brother, helping him figure out where to find an extra blanket.
The only lead police have released is a dark four‑door sedan captured on nearby surveillance footage. No arrests have been made, and the family has spent years waiting for answers.
In the time since, her loved ones have kept her memory close — taking small items from her room, holding onto pieces of her style, and honoring her with matching Winnie‑the‑Pooh tattoos.
A memorial garden now sits outside the family home, filled with lights, flowers, and a statue of the character she adored.
